Year of Joining the Party: December 1985
Story of Joining the Party:
At this momentous occasion of celebrating the centenary of the Communist Party of China, as a Communist Party member, I report to the Party with utmost reverence my growth process before and after joining the Party, to express my gratitude and appreciation to the Party.
When the People's Republic of China was founded, I was 5 years old. More than 70 years have passed, and I have gone from a young child to an elderly person. Accompanying the Republic's progress, bathed in the sunshine of the Party, rooted in the fertile soil of socialism, and nourished by the rain and dew of reform and opening up, I have experienced three stages of growth: schooling, factory work, and university teaching.
In the early days of the People's Republic of China, the Party led the people through arduous struggles, consolidating the newly established people's regime, achieving victory in the
War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, implementing land reform and democratic reforms in all aspects of society, comprehensively restoring the national economy, and promoting the renewal of education, science, culture, and health. In education reform, the state implemented leadership over schools, abolished reactionary political education, and introduced
Marxist-Leninist education into schools; the educational policy of "education must serve production and construction, and serve workers and peasants" was established, promoting the development and reform of higher education.
Faced with the extremely difficult conditions of poverty and backwardness at the time, the Party and the state still attached great importance to the cultivation and education of young people. I was fortunate enough to enter school in the summer of 1951, and systematically progressed from primary school (lower primary, upper primary), middle school (junior high, senior high) all the way to university graduation. Through systematic education and training at various levels of schools, I learned the basic knowledge of humanities and natural sciences, systematically mastered the basic theories, knowledge, and skills of my major, and acquired the ability to engage in professional practical work and research. Simultaneously, I received education in the basic principles of Marxism-Leninism and
Mao Zedong Thought at school, which improved my personal moral character and ideological and political awareness. In particular, through long-term training in the
Young Pioneers (joined in primary school) and the
Communist Youth League (joined in junior high school), and active participation in various social practice activities organized by the school, I gradually deepened my understanding of the Party and the socialist construction cause led by the Party, established a correct outlook on life and the world, and strived to practice being both politically sound and professionally competent, and to achieve all-round development.
During my seventeen or eighteen years of study, I witnessed the Party leading the people of the whole country in implementing the Party's general line and general tasks during the transition period, establishing the socialist system in my country in 1956, and successfully realizing the most profound and greatest social transformation in Chinese history; I also witnessed the ten years from 1956 to 1966 in my country's comprehensive socialist construction and the tremendous achievements made by the Party through arduous exploration and twists and turns on the path of socialist construction. These experiences deepened my understanding of the Party and the socialist construction led by it, and I resolved that after graduating from university, I would obey the needs of the motherland and actively devote myself to the socialist industrialization of the country.
At the end of 1968, after graduating from
Tsinghua University with a degree in gas turbine engineering, I was assigned to a factory in Shenyang. Initially, I worked at a low-pressure boiler factory built in 1932, mainly engaged in the design, manufacturing, and new product development of industrial and heating boilers. After the
National Science Conference in March 1978, in order to implement the policy of "employing intellectuals with skills not related to their studies," I was transferred to the newly built steam turbine factory to engage in the design, manufacturing, and application research of industrial steam turbines.
Working in the enterprise for nearly 13 years, I lived, ate, and worked alongside the workers. I often spent my days working diligently in the workshop and my evenings and weekends conducting research at home, combining practical production problems with ideas for technological improvements and new product design. My years of hard work earned me recognition from fellow workers, factory leaders, and higher authorities. I received numerous honors, including "Five-Good Worker" and "Technological Innovation Pioneer," and my professional title rose from technician to engineer. At that time, many veteran Party members and experienced workers treated me like family, caring for and helping me in all aspects of my life, including my thoughts, work, and personal life. Their selfless dedication, diligence, courage, and loyalty to the Party deeply influenced and educated me. In the factory, this "university of life," I learned much about life, perfected my character, elevated my ideological level, and cultivated deep feelings for my fellow workers. These intellectual and spiritual gains have benefited me throughout my life.
In 1978, the Third Plenary Session of the 11th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China was held in Beijing, ushering in a new era of reform and opening up and socialist modernization in my country. Higher education also developed rapidly. In the latter half of 1981, I was recruited from the factory to become a teacher at Liaoning Institute of Architectural Engineering (now Shenyang Jianzhu University), teaching courses such as "Fluid Mechanics" and "Heat Transfer." I love the teaching profession and dedicate myself to teaching with great enthusiasm. Drawing on my years of practical knowledge accumulated in enterprises, I optimize teaching content, improve teaching methods, and enhance teaching quality. In mid-1983, the school underwent a reorganization of its teaching structure, and I was appointed as the deputy director of the newly established Department of Urban Construction, in charge of research and student affairs. With the demands of the job and the weight of responsibility on my shoulders, and with the guidance of the organization and the help of veteran Party members, and through my own long-term practical experience and understanding of the Party's nature, purpose, history, and goals, I solemnly submitted my application to join the Party at the age of forty, expressing my loyalty to the Party, my commitment to working actively, and my firm determination to dedicate my life to the Party's educational cause.
After joining the Party at the end of 1985, I devoted myself wholeheartedly to teaching, research, and management with even greater enthusiasm. Subsequently, I served as department head and director of the research office as assigned by the organization. In 1992, I passed the national examination for government-sponsored overseas study and, after a short-term training program at the Ministry of Education's Overseas Study Service Center, was sent to the
University of Sheffield in the UK as a senior visiting scholar.
After returning to China, I transferred to the Department of Urban Construction at Beijing Institute of Civil Engineering (now Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture) at the end of 1993 as a teacher, mainly teaching the course "Industrial Ventilation" and supervising students' graduation projects. In early 1995, to prepare for the Ministry of Education's undergraduate teaching qualification assessment, I followed organizational arrangements and took a teaching management position, dedicating myself fully to the school's assessment office work. For the next three years, as the Dean of Academic Affairs, I assisted the then-president of the school in completing the Ministry of Education's expert group's on-site assessment and subsequent rectification review, ensuring that the school's teaching quality met the Ministry of Education's standards. Under the guidance of the higher-level Party organization, I joined the school's leadership team in 1998, and remained there until my retirement in early 2006. Whether in a deputy position or as the principal administrative leader, I consistently adhered to Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, and Deng Xiaoping Theory as my guiding principles; upheld the socialist direction of education; implemented the national education policy; upheld the president responsibility system under the leadership of the Party Committee; and upheld the rule of law in running the school. During the "15th Five-Year Plan" period, the school achieved new developments in teaching, research, and social services: The school's guiding ideology was further clarified, establishing its positioning as a service provider for urban planning, construction, and management; the quality of talent cultivation steadily improved, and the school passed the Ministry of Education's undergraduate teaching evaluation; new disciplines and majors were added; difficulties in school facilities were overcome by renting social buildings and campus space, and enrollment was expanded year after year; funds were actively raised to initiate preliminary preparations for the construction of the new Daxing campus, laying a solid foundation for the school's future development.
After retirement, I continued to actively serve the development of national higher education. As an evaluation expert for the Ministry of Education, I conducted undergraduate teaching evaluations at several universities, including Chang'an University; commissioned by the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, I led the compilation of five years' worth of Beijing higher education quality reports (2006-2010); commissioned by the Beijing Municipal Government Education Supervision Office, I conducted supervisory evaluations of 15 private universities and 5 independent colleges in Beijing, taking full responsibility for the entire process, from developing the evaluation indicator system and organizing expert visits to write evaluation opinions and rectification reviews.
All things grow by the sun.
Growing up in the embrace of our great motherland, I feel truly blessed.
The Party's nurturing and cultivation, like sunshine and rain, has nourished the growth of generation after generation!
I want to say something from my heart to the Party:
This year marks the 35th anniversary of my joining the Party. Compared with many veteran Party members, I am still a "young" Party member; compared with the large number of revolutionary martyrs, heroes, and advanced role models who have emerged in the Party's century-long struggle, my contributions to the Party are insignificant. In the future, I will be guided by
Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, earnestly study the Party's history, strive to understand principles, strengthen faith, uphold morality, and put history into practice through learning, enhance my "Four Consciousnesses," strengthen my "
Four Confidences," and achieve "
Two Upholds," continuing to do what I can to contribute my meager strength to the high-quality development of higher education in Beijing.
