1999年6月29日，中国国家副主席胡锦涛今日（星期二）上午经落马洲抵达香港，正式展开他在港的3日行程。

胡锦涛副主席是应行政长官董建华的邀请来港，在1999年7月1日为香港回归祖国纪念碑揭幕。

董建华率领政府高级官员在场热烈欢迎胡锦涛副主席。陪同胡锦涛副主席到港的人员包括国务院港澳办主任廖晖和中共中央办公厅副主任陈福今。

胡锦涛副主席抵港后与新闻界会面时说：「很高兴参加香港回归两周年今年的活动。首先我要感谢董先生和特区政府给我的欢迎，我也要借此机会，请你们转达对香港各界人士和广大香港同胞的亲切问候及良好祝愿。」

除行政长官外，到落马洲迎接胡锦涛副主席抵港的官员有政务司司长陈方安生、署理财政司司长许仕仁及律政司司长梁爱诗。

胡锦涛副主席在下午到香港联合交易所参观，他听取有关交易所运作的介绍，并参观了交易大堂及数个交易柜位。

接着，他与港区人大和政协代表及社会各界人士会面。

Chief Executive Welcomes Vice President to Hong Kong at Lok Ma Chau

On June 29, 1999, Chinese Vice President Hu Jintao arrived in Hong Kong via Lok Ma Chau this morning (Tuesday) to officially begin his three-day visit to Hong Kong.

Vice President Hu Jintao visited Hong Kong at the invitation of Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa and unveiled the monument commemorating Hong Kong's return to the motherland on July 1, 1999.

Tung Chee-hwa, leading a delegation of senior government officials, warmly welcomed Vice President Hu Jintao. Accompanying Vice President Hu to Hong Kong were Liao Hui, Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, and Chen Fujin, Deputy Director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee.

Upon arriving in Hong Kong, Vice President Hu met with the press and said, “I am very pleased to participate in this year’s activities commemorating the second anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to China. First of all, I would like to thank Mr. Tung and the SAR government for their welcome. I would also like to take this opportunity to ask you to convey my cordial greetings and best wishes to all sectors of Hong Kong society and the vast majority of Hong Kong compatriots.”

In addition to the Chief Executive, officials who greeted Vice President Hu at Lok Ma Chau included Chief Secretary for Administration Anson Chan, Acting Financial Secretary Rafael Hui, and Secretary for Justice Elsie Leung.

In the afternoon, Vice President Hu visited the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. He received a briefing on the operation of the exchange and toured the trading hall and several trading counters.

Following this, he met with representatives of the National People’s Congress and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference from Hong Kong, as well as people from various sectors of society.
